Dr. Ian B. Strachan, Ph.D.
After 20 years at McGill with the last 10 serving as Associate Dean (Graduate Education) for the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, I have moved to the Department of Geography and Planning at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario.
I began my academic journey at the University of Toronto where I studied Physical Geography. I traveled down the 401 to Kingston where I earned MSc and PhD (in 2000) degrees at Queen's University. I then went up the 416 to Ottawa, completing post-doctoral research at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. My journey next took me east along the 417/A40 to McGill and now I am returning 'home'. As the late Neil Peart wrote: "The point of a journey is not to arrive" Academic CV |
Ph.D. Students
James Zhao
James is co-supervised by Dr. Neal Scott. James is investigating the net carbon exchange at a mesic tundra ecosystem in the Canadian high arctic near the Cape Bounty Arctic Watershed Observatory.
Jean-Pierre Lebrun
J-P began his PhD program at Queen's in September 2024. Co-supervised with Dr. Maria Strack, J-P will be studying the emissions of CO2 and CH4 from a peatland harvested using the Acrotelm Harvesting Method.
M.Sc. Students
Katherine Bot |
Kat will begin her research in September 2025 on ecosystem-scale carbon fluxes following fen restoration as part of a new NSERC Alliance grant with Dr. Maria Strack at U. Waterloo.
Darby Hayward
Darby will begin her research in September 2025 focusing on the hydrological changes resulting from fen restoration as part of the new NSERC Alliance with Dr. Maria Strack.
Madison Jumeau
MJ will begin her research in September 2025.
Rose Simard
I am co-supervising Rose in Dr. Maria Strack's group at U. Waterloo. Rose will be examining plant community-scale C fluxes from fen restoration as part of the new NSERC Alliance.
Prateeksha Vadali
Prateeksha joined the lab from the University of Alberta in September 2023 and is co-supervised by Dr. Maria Strack at U. Waterloo. Prateeksha is examining the changes in peatland hydrology and DOC resulting from the Acrotelm Harvesting Method.
