Education:
B.Sc. Atmospheric Sciences, McGill (2011)
B.Sc. Environment (Land Surface Processes and Environmental Change), McGill (2014)
M.Sc., McGill (2016)
Tracy completed her Masters degree in the AERlab in the Natural Resource Sciences department. Her thesis focused on the trace gas exchange (Methane and Carbon Dioxide) of a post-harvested, unrestored peatland in Eastern Quebec. Since no effort of restoration at her site has been attempted, invasive graminoid species have started spreading across the peatland, which act as major sources of methane. Preliminary results show that the Carbon Dioxide uptake of the system is not sufficient enough to compensate for the large amount of methane released. Therefore, the unrestored site has changed from a sink of carbon prior to harvesting to a source of carbon after abandonment. Techniques using eddy covariance towers and static chambers were used to measure carbon fluxes at both the ecosystem and plant-community scales. This coupled with a vegetation survey done of the site will be used to determine how much each plant type contributes to the overall methane fluxes of the peatland.
